The practice of so-called copyright bullying is one that stomps all over creativity and is placing stumbling blocks in the path of artistry which relies on the ability for give-and-take in artistic exchange.
If the concept of copyright protection was designed to prevent unfair competition and confused consumers, why is it being allowed to hinder freedom of expression? -- Our artistic desires to comment on the words, images or sounds that we're being saturated with on a daily basis and our willingness to attempt to criticize, parody or use them as examples have been denied. The laws governing copyright protection are being misused with a reckless determination to undermine the principles and importance of free speech. -- Are we headed towards an unavoidable confrontation between the values of free speech, creativity and shared resources and the economic values of those who seek to privitize everything from intellectual property to human genes? [excerpts from an article by PABlo entitled; "all rights reserved, all wrongs reversed"] ~~~~~~~~~~~~ What does this have to do with Cory Doctorow you ask? Well, for starters...what do you know about Creative Commons? At the next meetup, the agenda is "Copyfight: Creativity or Bust" AND I have a horrible little story that MUST be told to everyone who still feels that copyright is here to serve creators... Finally, how would you like to get some Free Books? Come to the meetup to find out more! Check EVENTS for Date/Time/Location Edited by PABlo on Feb 22, 2005 12:35 PM |
